Duties & Responsibilities:

- Ensures consistent and appropriate medical care for the people we serve by working with nursing staff and the Associate Executive Director of Clinical Services to assess needs and develop, implement and enforce medical policies, procedures and protocols.
- Meets staffing needs by conducting interviews; orientating/training new staff; planning, assigning, and directing work.
- Guides and enhances performance of nursing staff by communicating job expectations; monitoring and appraising work performance; coaching, counseling, and providing positive feedback; recommending appropriate corrective action, when necessary.
- Supports staff by answering questions, addressing complaints, resolving problems, maintain a safe and secure work environment, and developing personal and professional growth opportunities.
- Responds appropriately to emergency and other unusual situations by following established procedures; receiving information and issuing instructions to staff; coordinating inside and outside interventions; reporting concerns to Director of Clinical Services, when necessary.
- Improves the quality of medical services by gathering information and analyzing current operating procedures, identifying and evaluating options, and recommending appropriate changes to Director of Clinical Services, providing instruction, guidance and support to nursing staff in implementing approved changes.
- Enforces adherence to medical and QM protocols by following and effectively communicating established regulations, policies and procedures; instructing staff, monitoring implementation, and implementing necessary corrective action.
- Promotes a value-based team environment by establishing and maintaining a positive working relationship with staff and other team members, including Behavioral Management, Quality Management, Day Programs, Service Coordination, etc.
- Meets program needs by anticipating and identifying staffing, financial and operational requirements and working with the Associate Executive Director of Clinical Services and applicable Support Departments to take appropriate action.
- Ensures consistent delivery of medical services by visiting sites/programs to provide hands-on assistance and skilled nursing duties when needed.
- Maintains a working understanding of ever-changing medical needs, goals and preferences of the people we serve by making periodic first person contact with the people we serve.
- Ensures direct care staff and the people we serve have 24/7 access to nursing services by overseeing and participating in a system of on-call coverage during off-hours.
- Assist with the achievement of financial objectives by working with the Associate Executive Director of Clinical Services to prepare a budget by anticipating program needs/requirements and expenditures. Reviews financial reports and participates in the monitoring of costs for department budget lines.
- Contributes to providing a safe and healthy environment by monitoring conditions and recommending changes.
- Enhances professional knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications, establishing personal network and actively participating in management and supervisory meetings.
- Responsible to comply with the Agency’s Corporate Compliance plan and Code of Ethics.
- Responsible to report any suspected violations of the plan or Code of Ethics to immediate supervisor, program administrator or Agency’s Corporate Compliance Officer.
- Responsible to adhere to the agency and programs time and attendance policies including call-in protocol.
- Deliver & document services delivered in the format required by regulation and Agency/program Policy & Procedure.
- Maintains confidentiality of Individual information in accordance with the requirements of NYS Mental Hygiene Law and the Agency’s HIPAA Privacy Policies and Procedures.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in nursing from an accredited program preferred. OR Associate’s Degree in nursing acceptable
Must be licensed and currently registered as a nurse by the New York State Department of Education. Five (5) years nursing experience is required.
One (1) to Five (5) supervisory experience is required. Experience working with people with developmental disabilities is preferred.
Essential Requirements:
Must have valid New York State driver’s license and must meet the Agency’s driving policy, which includes a satisfactory driver’s record (MVR). Must satisfy and maintain Category III driving
Recommended to attain certification for core level SCIP-R training. Must successfully complete all OMRDD mandate training.
